Stephen has always proven himself to be professional, committed and creative in often difficult working environments, most notably the Arctic. His eye for beautiful film is second to none. Stephen is pleasant to work with and follows direction very well, while integrating his own welcome take.
DANNIELLE TAAFFE – GREENPEACE INTERNATIONAL VIDEO PRODUCER
Through our work together I have seen clearly Stephen’s refined professional ethic, his complete command of an impressive array of technical skills , including music editing, and his cooperative nature both up and down the chain of command.
In the making of our documentary film I have seen his very remarkable ability to gain the confidence of his subjects and then weave together a captivating narrative that is nothing short of beautiful to watch .
I have been particularly impressed by his ability to select and apply appropriate, expressive music in film and the fact that, by virtue of his broad artistic sensibility, he is equally at home with poetry and creative writing.
ROLAND MELIA – ARTISTIC DIRECTOR / CEGIN PRODUCTIONS, UK
I first met Stephen some years back when he was hired to film a writers seminar I was participating in on the island of Paros. He was great to work with so I thought of him immediately when I wanted to make a documentary film around a poetry and translation workshop I organized in 2011.
I chose Stephen because he is artistically sensitive, intellectually curious, open to new ideas, careful with detail, and he tuned in immediately to the spirit of the project. The 20-minute documentary we produced, “Poet’s in No Man’s Land”, involved poets form several countries and poetry in seven languages. The multilingual complexity did not impede the freshness and immediacy of the film.
I was delighted when our documentary received an award for best poetry video at the Cyprus International Film Festival in 2012.
STEPHANOS STEPHANIDES – POET / FILMMAKER
Our first collaboration with Stephen was an emergency solution to a crisis. Literally out of nowhere and overnight he solved the problems on hand, both technical and organizational, then stayed on as a full collaborator on a complex shoot.
As a result we hired him again a year later, for a project in Morocco. Stephen arrived prepared for every eventuality, joined the group in easy and friendly interaction, then delivered a first cut that was both intellectually ambitious and gorgeous. We finalized the project exactly on due-date, and continue to be proud of the film years later.
NATASA DUROVICOVA – INTERNATIONAL WRITING PROGRAM, IOWA
Stephen has the charisma of grasping and turning the message of a script into a moving image topped with canny solutions and artistic dashes. That is why I have been collaborating with Stephen as cinematographer and editor for all the work I produce either for the University or for independent productions.
